Healing from a plant: Ibogaine

People should approach Master plants including iboga therapy with a distinct set of intentions. Plant based therapy in the West has been increasingly used to help solve social, emotional, and psychological problems.

How could ibogaine work for so many different maladies? A number of things might be happening. Iboga therapy may bring you to the source of your problems, which you can solve and let go. Master Plants provide self reflection may help you face and heal childhood trauma. The waking dreams of iboga may illustrate the healthier way to live your life. Or the potential interaction with ancestors may facilitate generational healing that impacts the lives of your entire family.

What is clear is that iboga therapy treatment may provide an entheogenic -derived breakthrough to a better life. Entheogens are plants (sometimes called plant spirits) taken with the intention of bringing on a spiritual state. Entheogen means “generating the divine within.”

Upon ingesting iboga or ibogaine, one can expect a difficult experience with distracting side effects including nausea, ataxia and emotional distress. Some, but not all, people will experience visions, will make it “to the other side.” 5 or 10 percent of people who ingest iboga do not experience visions. Others may encounter frustrating cartoon-like visuals that were not what they expected. The peak experience takes between 8 and 12 hours, with a very gradual come-down, another 12 hours normally.

While the nature of the visions are scrutinized and their message is important to us, iboga healing occurs with or without the visions. In this account, Rory (not a Oka Center client) does not report visions, but gets a full therapeutic experience:

“It’s hard to think of iboga as a drug, so different is it from what most of us think drugs to be. It’s not something you’d take to get high, to feel ecstatic, because it doesn’t really have that effect. For me, it wasn’t even about ‘getting out there’ because I always knew where I was, who I was, and didn’t really feel that different from my normal state of being. It really was like therapy—above and beyond anything, a deep and focused introspective experience entered into for the long term benefits. There were, I feel, and hope, definite long term benefits from this—and, as far as I can tell, absolutely no side effects, nothing of the negative. Even if things have changed, once the trip is over the overwhelming feeling is of a ‘return to normal.’ I feel no different than beforehand, except, as I’ve said, that I seem to be lacking several things that weren’t good for me. How cool is that?”

Iboga-Ibogaine Therapy Provides A Wide Range Of Experiences

The many iboga testimonials run the gamut, and experiences are as different from one another as can be. But the grateful and glad nature of the reports is consistent: people are helped by ibogaine therapy. It is important to note that the mental and emotional processing of these experiences takes time, usually months. It is important not to judge the experience too quickly.
